This is about the current formulation, which I understand captures the essence of the scent. FINDINGS: This is a very odd fragrance, but it is strangely modern by the late 80s standards. I am not saying it smells like them, but it has the musky nature of Kouros (NOT as animalic and pissy LOL) and the sweetness of Ted Lapidus Pour Homme.Ted Lapidus has a honey sweetness; whereas, this one has a root beer (as noted in other reviews) type of sweetness. But this is still powerful with some strong dominating notes, so I do not think this is office-friendly or crowd-safe, nor anywhere you will be in close quarters with someone for all day/hours.Today I bought my first full sized new formula (chello, base violin shaped bottle) of Tabu at the drug store in my neighbourhood. It's like the little root beer flavoured soda candies I used to love getting in my lunch at school when I was growing up in the 1990's.I discovered it after reading reviews of other vintage jems that I own. It's probably horribly watered down compared to its vintage self but I don't mind having never smelt the vintage.I was intrigued by the lady of the night mythology behind this scent and had to add it to my collection. If I want a longer lasting root beer experience I will reach for my signature Youth Dew anyway.the next day I smelled it on my bathrobe and wow, I started craving it.At different times I get different notes, maybe depending on how active I am. This fragrance is a trip to memory lane since it was the perfume my grandfather used to wear.

Warm oriental base includes amber, resins, civet and precious woods – sandal and patchouli.

I want to like Tabu but on me it goes almost bitter, and too powdery. Tabu isn't Nag Champra, but it's similar with more of a root beer smell. While I am not a fragrance expert, I have been wearing fragrance almost everyday since Elementary School (yeah, I am one of those people, lol). ), baby powder (not strong though), Nag Champra Indian Incense, dirty vanilla (dirty in the best way), clove cigarettes (in the best way) and Autumn spices. I think if you like Shalimar, Giorgio Red, those types of fragrances, you might like this.

Not an everyday fragrance for me, one that I have to be in the "mood" for; this is nice for say a rainy day or a Fall or snowy Winter day, that sort of thing.

I can understand the price now, because the bottle looks really cheap drugstore scent. The first impression was a Buddhist temple the smell of lots of incense sticks. I know you need to wait for some fragrances and after a while this odour changed into quite a sweet spicy scent.

I am not sure if I like it now or not, so I will keep on trying to find out.
